How fishing power works

The rod's power is the base of the fishing power formula. Your bait's power is added on top, then gear, potions and the world itself scale the total: lake size, time of day, weather and the moon all push it up or down. A better rod raises everything downstream, so upgrading the pole is the single biggest jump you can make. The Hotline Fishing Hook is the only rod that can fish in lava on its own; every other rod needs lava bait or a Lavaproof Fishing Hook.

Angler quest fish41

The Angler asks for one of these 41 fish per day, each catchable only in a specific biome or layer while his quest for it is active. Every fish links to its item page.
