Throwing Ancient Cobalt Breastplate into Shimmer transmutes it into
Jungle Shirt. Obtained by shimmering:
Jungle Shirt.All transmutationsSet bonus
The bonus applies while the helmet, chestpiece and leggings are all worn together.
the name is misleading
Nothing here connects to Cobalt Ore or the Hardmode armor smelted from it. The name is a leftover: this was the original cobalt set at launch, Jungle armor replaced it early on, and the retired sprites came back later under the ancient label. Read it as a pre-Hardmode caster set that happens to share a word with gear you will not touch until after the Wall of Flesh.
getting the pieces
There is no recipe. Each piece falls from Hornets and Man Eaters in the underground jungle, and the odds are poor enough that hunting a full set deliberately is a bad use of an afternoon. Normally a piece or two turns up while you are down there for spores and stingers anyway. Since the numbers match the jungle set exactly, craft that and treat these as a bonus. Shimmer converts between the two if you prefer the older look.
wearing it
Pieces from both sets feed the same bonus, so a hat from one and legs from the other still cut what your spells cost. That reduction matters more than it sounds this early, when your mana pool empties in a couple of seconds and the recovery debuff punishes every potion. It stretches each star you pick up and keeps you attacking instead of standing still. The visual tell is an afterimage trail rather than the grass motes the jungle version scatters.
when to move on
It lasts until you have a better answer to damage, usually Meteor armor and its free Space Gun shots, or Molten armor if you keep getting hit. The look is distinctive enough that the helmet often ends up in a vanity slot afterward.
