how it aims

Nothing comes out of the bow itself. Arrows fall from the sky in a fan centered on your cursor, and where you hold that cursor on the screen decides how tight the fan is. Keep it low, near your feet, and the volley lands in a narrow column you can walk onto a boss. Raise it toward the top of the screen and the same volley smears across half the arena. That is the whole skill of the weapon: pick a spread that matches whether you are killing one big thing or a crowd.

where it works

It needs open sky. Underground the arrows spawn into ceiling and die before they reach anything, and standing at the very top of the world chokes it down to a single arrow per shot. Fight outdoors and it is one of the strongest things you can be holding in early Hardmode. Ammo is barely a consideration either, since a whole volley costs one arrow off the stack, so bringing the expensive types is affordable.

arrow choice

Holy Arrows are the default and the reason this bow has a reputation for flattening the mechanical bosses. Against The Destroyer, Unholy or Jester's Arrows punch down the whole body instead of stopping at one segment. Ichor Arrows are the better answer for The Twins and Skeletron Prime, where stripping defense matters more than piercing. The bow throws slightly fewer arrows per shot with the strongest ammo types, which is deliberate, but it does not change that ranking.

the name

Daedalus built the labyrinth for King Minos and then built the wax wings he and Icarus used to escape it. The bow's limbs are drawn as a pair of feathered wings, which is the joke.
