Shimmer

Obtained by shimmering: Enchanted Sundial. All transmutations

how you get one

There is no recipe. You throw an Enchanted Sundial into shimmer and this comes back, so owning both means tracking down a second sundial. Once placed it fires from the interact key or from wiring, which makes it easy to fold into an automated setup.

what activating it does

It winds the clock forward to dusk, either later the same day or the next one depending on when you hit it. It does not snap there. Time runs sixty times its normal pace until it arrives, so whole hours pass in seconds while you watch. Beds and the Journey Mode time controls do nothing on top of it while it is running.

the difference that matters

Tile updates do not speed up with the clock. Crops sit still, grass does not spread, and the world evils do not creep an inch while it runs. That is the split from sleeping it off in a bed, which drags the world along with the time, and it makes this the safe option on a world you are trying to keep clean. It also makes it useless if you were hoping to rush a farm.

what the acceleration does touch

  • Anything measured in game time runs down: fallen stars, cultists and fairies appearing, ladybug luck decaying, the Tax Collector gathering coins, and Deerclops counting toward a despawn.
  • Events timed against the real world clock get cut short, so a rainstorm ends much sooner than it otherwise would.
  • Nothing random rolls while it runs. Bosses will not spawn on their own, the Traveling Merchant will not turn up, and a Blood Moon cannot begin.
  • Skipping to dusk right after a boss dies starts a Lantern Night immediately.

the cooldown

Seven in game days, and the timer belongs to the world rather than to the object, so building a second one buys you nothing. Sleeping in a Bed through the wait cuts the real time cost to roughly a quarter, which is the only practical way to shorten it. A Blood Moon or Solar Eclipse arriving naturally clears it outright, so in practice it comes back more often than the stated wait suggests. In multiplayer a day only counts if somebody is online when dusk passes.

pairing it with the sundial

Each object stops the acceleration when its own hour comes around, so firing both lands you on whichever target falls second in the order. Their cooldowns are tracked separately, so spending one leaves the other ready. It is a fiddly way to place yourself precisely in the cycle, and the only way to push through more than a single day in one go.
