Eucalyptus Sap

A sugar glider tags along behind you, and when you pull too far ahead it spreads the flaps of skin along its sides and glides in. It is one of the few pets whose catch-up move is a real animal behavior instead of a shortcut the game needed.

Shake forest trees. No boss, no event, no crafting, which makes this one of the earliest pets a brand new character can realistically end up with. Bring a decent axe and work a long stretch of forest, since each tree gives up its shake only once and you are relying on a small chance each time.
