why this one first
Every other mount asks for something real. A boss kill, a pile of coins, a rare drop off a rare enemy. This one only wants five errands run for the Angler, which you can knock out on the first couple of in-game days, and what you get back outruns anything else you can move with that early. Even if fishing bores you, five quests for that much speed is a good trade.
riding it
Your accessories keep working underneath you. A double jump still fires, balloons still lift the arc higher, and lava waders still let you cross things you have no business crossing. Landing costs nothing at all, so you can drop into a chasm at full tilt and keep hopping. The one habit to unlearn is holding an autoswing weapon behind you while you run, which makes the bunny slide backward like a bad dance move.
an accidental flashlight
Mounting and dismounting throws off a spray of sparks that inherit your momentum and fade over a second or two. Hook onto a cave wall, tap the mount key, and those sparks drift straight through the stone and outline whatever room is behind it. It is a free look at ground you have not dug into yet.
