Set bonusGladiator armor

Full setGrants immunity to knockback
Full set defense16

The bonus applies while the helmet, chestpiece and leggings are all worn together.

farming the pieces

Gladiator armor comes off Hoplites, the animated statues that live in Marble Caves, and every piece drops separately, so expect to be down there a while. Hoplites throw javelins that hurt badly, but they stagger easily, and anyone keeping steady pressure on one rarely takes a hit back. A Hoplite Statue makes the whole thing trivial: wire it above a trap and let it feed itself. The same enemy also drops the Gladius and the Javelin, so a farm arms you while it dresses you.

knockback immunity is the real prize

Wearing the full set means nothing shoves you around anymore, and that matters more than the defense does. Short-reach melee is miserable when every hit you take knocks you out of range of the thing you were swinging at. Standing your ground and continuing the combo is a genuine damage increase. It also frees the accessory slot you would otherwise hand to the Cobalt Shield, which is worth an entire extra effect at a point in the run where slots are tight.

how it compares

Protection sits around what Gold offers, so if you already have gold or platinum you are moving sideways for the bonus rather than upgrading. For melee that trade is usually worth taking. What it will not do is carry you past Skeletron, where enemy damage climbs and this much defense stops being enough to matter.

special worlds

In a Skyblock world it is normally the first real armor anyone wears, wood aside. High-tier ore is hard to come by there, while the marble section and the slimes that come with it put Hoplites in front of you almost immediately.

the name

It is named after the arena fighters of Rome but drawn after Greek hoplites, matching the enemies that drop it rather than the word on the label.
