A ball struck off the tee carries further than one sitting on the ground, so tee up anything where distance is the point. Activating the tee also puts a ball on it whether or not you own one, so it doubles as a free ball dispenser if you never bought any.
There is a catch worth knowing before you use one mid round. Teeing up removes every golf ball you have in play anywhere in the world, including ones still rolling and ones a friend is lining up nearby.
If you carry several colors, the game decides for you by slot order. Social slots are checked first, then equipped accessories, then the inventory. Park the color you want in a social slot and it will be the one that appears every time.
