the reason to swing it
Every kill you land with this bat starts a short regeneration window. It does not stack, the timer just resets on the next kill, so the effect is a steady top-up while you are clearing a crowd rather than a burst of healing. Sweeping through trash mobs leaves you close to full without touching a potion, which matters most on the walk between arenas and during long events.
The regen also triggers on critters and townspeople, so if you are ever desperate for a heal in an empty area, a passing bunny will do.
keep something in your stomach
It hits harder while any food buff is running. That is a small bump on its own, but it costs nothing to maintain given you should already be running food before a fight, and it means the bat quietly rewards the habit rather than asking you to build around it.
where it comes from
Pigrons are the source, and the drop rate goes up substantially in a The Constant world. That is a deliberate wink: the weapon and its description are lifted from Don't Starve, so the seed that borrows most heavily from that game hands it out more freely.
