Heat Ray

The beam arrives the instant you click. There is no travel time to lead and no arc to judge, so it connects with things no ordinary projectile can keep up with. That is the entire case for the weapon. It has a fixed reach and it stops at the first body it touches, so it is strictly single target.

Fast, distant or erratic enemies are its job, along with anything you are shooting across an arena. When the target is slow or already sitting on top of you there are magic weapons that will badly out damage it at that range, so keep something else on the bar for close work.

The weapon, its tooltip and the sound are lifted from The War of the Worlds, where the Martian walkers carry heat rays of their own. The tank strapped to your back while you hold it stays visibly full even when you are out of mana.
