what mowing actually does
Mowing changes three things about a grass tile: the texture, the spawn rate of enemies standing on it, and whether plants can grow there. That last one is the trap. Run the mower around your base and you also wipe out the dye plants and herbs you had been letting grow wild, and nothing new will come up. Keep it away from anything you are farming.
why you would bother
Golf balls roll across mowed ground without dragging, which is the reason it exists at all. Outside of golf, the spawn reduction is the practical use: a mowed apron around a town or an arena quietly thins the ambient enemies without you building walls or hanging torches. It only truly mows normal and hallowed grass. On corrupt, crimson or jungle grass it just strips the weeds and flowers off the top.
using it
It deals a flat amount to anything you run into, but only while you are moving forward with your feet on the ground and not grappled. That number never moves. Damage boosts, crit chance and class bonuses all do nothing, though enemy defense and banners still apply, so treat it as a novelty rather than a weapon. It works with smart cursor, mows vertically if you jump alongside a grassy wall, and functions upside down under reversed gravity, so clearing a large area goes quicker than it looks.
