This only drops under Master Mode rules, so wanting it means committing to the harder difficulty for at least one Plantera kill. It is the same fight with far less room for error, and the drop is generous enough that a couple of clean attempts usually settle it.
where the joke comes from
The buff text wondering what it eats points at Little Shop of Horrors and Audrey II, the talking plant that lives on blood. The pet plays along. When you get far enough ahead it spins its petals like rotor blades and flies after you, which is a much friendlier picture than the thing it grew out of.
