how it hits
Point at something and a ring blooms over it and closes. There is no travel time to watch and no lead to calculate, which makes it one of the easiest weapons in the game to land on a fast target. The catch is line of sight: the ring forms at the first block between you and the cursor, so shooting through terrain does not happen and fighting around corners is frustrating.
the damage falls off
Every hit inside a single aura lands a little weaker than the one before it. Held on one large target it settles well below the number on the tooltip after a second or so. Against a crowd that barely matters, because each new enemy that wanders in starts from the top. That is where the weapon belongs.
knockback direction
Enemies are always pushed straight away from you rather than away from the ring, which turns it into a genuine defensive tool. Place it slightly past whatever is closing on you and the thing goes backwards instead of sliding sideways past your shoulder.
getting one
It comes off the Princess, so obtaining it means killing a town resident by indirect means. She only drops it once Hardmode has started, even in the seed where she can move in long before that.
