Shadowbeam Staff
Creates a shadow beam that bounces off walls

how the beam works
Each cast draws a line that reaches its full length almost instantly and folds off walls as it goes. It passes through any number of enemies, but every one it touches shaves a slice off its damage, and it cannot come back around for a second hit on the same target. The first few enemies in the path take real numbers. Whatever is at the far end barely notices. Nothing else in the game moves this fast.
where to use it
The Dungeon is home turf, which is convenient given where it comes from. Tight stone rooms let one cast fold four or five times and hit things you cannot even see, and the light it throws makes the place easier to navigate at the same time. Out in open sky it is a straight line and nothing more.
two tricks
- It works on The Destroyer because the segments soak the entire beam, but only the leading hits matter, so do not expect the tail of the shot to contribute.
- Fire it at a sloped block and the beam rides up the slope rather than deflecting off it. Build a lip of slopes, stand behind it, and you can hit whatever is on the other side while nothing reaches you. That is worth setting up before an event.
