What you are really buying with that enormous crafting chain is slot economy. It carries every readout the Cell Phone gives you, and it absorbs the Magic Conch and Demon Conch as well, so three separate travel items and a pile of informational accessories collapse into one thing that lives in a hotbar slot. It only comes together after Skeletron falls, since part of the chain is locked inside the dungeon.

Press your open and activate key on it to cycle where it will send you. There are four settings: your bed, the world's original spawn point, the ocean and the Underworld. Whichever one is currently showing is what you get, and there is no menu to confirm from, so read the name before you press rather than after. Keep the bed and the world spawn straight in your head, because they are separate options for a reason. The bed follows your current base while the world spawn stays where it always was, which matters once you have moved far from the middle of the map.

The two conch destinations are what make it more than a convenience. Ocean fishing stops costing you a round trip, and any expedition below starts at the bottom of the world instead of at the top of a hellevator. The catch is the wind up, which is among the slowest in the game. Anything chasing you arrives long before the animation finishes, so treat it as transport and keep something else on hand for actually escaping. Arriving in the Underworld with no fire protection ready is the other way this goes wrong.

There is a version with no destination assigned at all. It plays the full animation and the warping sound, then leaves you exactly where you were standing. Journey Mode always files the item under that empty version when you research it, whichever one you fed in, though pulling a copy back out gives you the one that sends you home.
