it fights while you fight
The mount carries a gun and a rocket launcher that fire on their own the moment anything enters the arc in front of you. You keep full use of your own weapon at the same time, so it layers damage on top of whatever you were already doing rather than replacing it.
the firing cone is the catch
Neither weapon fires unless a target is inside that forward arc with a clear line to you. Once a rocket is airborne it will chase almost anything, including things behind you, but something has to be in front to start the sequence. The machine gun sprays wide enough to miss a lot at range, so the rockets carry most of the output.
the trade you are making
Mounting locks out wings, and that is a real cost in most fights. What you get instead is a double jump that stacks with jump accessories, no fall damage, and a frame short enough to fit down corridors that larger mounts cannot. The one place this is clearly correct is the Solar Pillar, where staying on the ground keeps Crawltipedes off you entirely. Balloon accessories that add jumps are the natural pairing.
its damage does not scale
The projectiles ignore your damage bonuses completely, though your ranged critical chance does apply to them. It contributes a fixed amount that matters a lot early after you get it and steadily less as the rest of your gear improves.
