how the wasps behave
Every cast throws out a small swarm that flies straight for a moment before it starts hunting. That delay matters. Fire while a target is already lined up and the wasps commit immediately; fire blind and they waste the first stretch of their life going nowhere. Once locked on they will switch to a closer enemy mid flight, and they accelerate hardest when they are traveling the wrong way, so they curl back onto a target instead of overshooting it again and again.
where it shines and where it dies
The wasps ignore a chunk of enemy armor, which keeps their small per hit numbers relevant against Hardmode enemies that would otherwise shrug them off. Each one gets a few bounces before it fades, so a tight room or a stacked crowd returns far more per cast than open sky does. Water and lava delete them on contact. Honey does not, which is worth remembering in the Hive.
notes
- The Hive Pack quietly raises both the damage and the armor shredding of the wasps. The tooltip never mentions it.
- It is one of the better Lucky Coin farming weapons. Coins roll per hit, and this lands a lot of very small hits, so an invasion turns into money faster than a heavy hitter would manage.
