8flight with nothing on your back
The draw is cosmetic. You get wing flight and hovering without a pair of wings covering the outfit underneath, which is why it turns up on so many vanity builds. The only visual it adds is an exhaust plume out of your feet, similar to what rocket boots leave behind.
the slot you put it in changes the look
This is the part nobody expects. How far down your accessory bar the item sits controls how strongly your eyes glow and how long the streak behind you runs. Put it in the top slot and there is no glow at all. Push it toward the bottom and it gets pronounced. The light it casts on the world works the same way, so if you wanted a quiet version, move it up rather than dyeing it out.
two dye slots, two effects
The eyes and the exhaust are colored separately. The pet dye slot handles the glow, the accessory dye slot handles the flame. A handful of dyes remove the effect they touch instead of recoloring it, which is the cleanest route to flight with no visual signature whatsoever. Note that the glow only appears when the item is in a real accessory slot set to visible, not a vanity one.
