Banner

Every 50th kill of this enemy drops Fungi Bulb Banner.

where it grows

Glowing mushroom patches on the surface are the only place it turns up before hardmode. Once a world turns, the underground mushroom biomes produce them too. It roots itself to a block and never leaves it, so a bulb is only ever a hazard in the space around where it rooted, and it lunges less eagerly than a Man Eater does.

judging its reach

The reach is not fixed. It sits on a shorter tether most of the time, then stretches noticeably further for a couple of seconds before pulling back in. A gap that felt safe while you were mining is suddenly in range. Measure your standoff against the longer version, not the one you just watched.

what does not work

  • Walling it off is pointless. The head passes straight through terrain.
  • Lava will not kill it either, like anything else that ignores blocks.
  • You can no longer dig out the block it is attached to. That used to kill it outright with no loot, and only the oldest console and handheld builds still do that.
  • It has no ranged attack. The spores belong to the Giant Fungi Bulb, which is a hardmode problem.
