Lac Beetle

This is a rare Underground Jungle spawn, and rare here means you can tunnel through the whole biome and never see one. It registers on the Lifeform Analyzer, which is the only sane way to hunt it. Carry the analyzer while you dig and let it call out the beetle rather than scanning every corridor yourself.

The whole reason to kill it is the Violet Husk, which is the one path to Violet Dye. That makes it a dye errand, not a threat. It fights exactly like the ordinary bugs around it, so once you have enough husks for the outfit you had in mind there is nothing else to come back for.

Lac is a real material. The insect behind the name is a scale insect rather than a beetle, and the resin it secretes gets refined into shellac or into dye that comes out red or violet, which is where the drop comes from.
