Only during a Solar Eclipse, and only once Plantera is down, so eclipses earlier in hardmode never produce them. It is uncommon even then. Its bestiary entry fills in half the usual number of kills, which is a small mercy given how rarely it shows up.

This is a counter attacker. Landing a hit often makes it fan nails at you, so a weapon that connects many times a second is manufacturing its own incoming fire. Fewer, heavier hits mean fewer volleys, which is why something like a Sniper Rifle suits it better than a rapid weapon despite the health pool.

• It is the slowest thing in the event, so you can walk backwards for as long as you need to.
• Stay off its firing line. The nails go out in a spread from where it faces, so a steep angle avoids most of them.
• Never trade contact damage, and do not expect knockback to shove it off you.
• In expert and master the nails hurt nearly as much as touching it does, which turns careless damage into a real risk.
