How to craft it
what running on it feels like
Asphalt multiplies your ground speed, and because it raises the normal walking cap rather than the sprint cap, you accelerate at full rate the entire way up to that new ceiling. Hermes Boots and everything built on them do the opposite: they let you pass the walking cap and then crawl toward the sprint cap at half acceleration. On asphalt the boots contribute nothing at all, so if you already have wings for the air, that slot is free for something else.
the catch
Braking is doubled to match. You stop almost instantly when you let go, and you drop back to normal the moment your feet leave the block, so a gap in the bridge or a stray jump costs you everything you built up. Mounts mostly ignore the speed bonus while still eating the braking penalty, which makes them worse on asphalt than running on foot.
building with it
The standard use is a long flat skybridge. It crosses a world faster than any mount, it makes late-night Fallen Star runs trivial, and when you are dodging Plantera, Duke Fishron, The Twins or the Moon Lord, the raw horizontal speed is a defensive tool on its own. Magiluminescence earns a slot on such a bridge because it patches the acceleration ramp and raises the top end. If you want to go further, salt the bridge with single Spike blocks: clipping one keeps the Panic buff running and the speed gets silly.
