Tree shaking is the whole source, and only the crimson variety pays out, so a corruption world will never see one without trading or shimmering for it. The buff itself is the weak tier, which means there is no reason to save these for a fight.

There is a reason to save them anyway. Later on the fruit becomes an ingredient in a much stronger dish, and stock builds slowly because shakes only pay out occasionally and each tree gives up what it has and then stops. If your food supply is already sorted, put the oranges in a chest and forget about them until you need them.
