where each color comes from
These come up on a fishing line, not in a net, which catches people out because most bait is something you chase around with a Bug Net. Depth and biome decide which one you land: fish water below the surface layer for the blue kind, fish the Ocean for the pink one. Once Hardmode starts, underground casts begin splitting their jellyfish rolls evenly with the green version, so Green Jellyfish simply start showing up in the spots that only ever gave blue before. Nothing about your setup has to change for that.
using them
Bait quality here is unremarkable, but you were fishing anyway, so it arrives as part of the catch instead of as a separate errand. Bait gets consumed as you reel things in, so a stack is not a permanent fixture in your tackle box. If you are chasing crates or a stubborn quest fish, carry something stronger and let the jellyfish be what you fall back on when it runs dry.
two things worth knowing
- The jellyfish drifting around in the water are enemies and have nothing to do with the bait. Killing them will not give you any.
- The old internal name for these was the plural Jellyfishes, which is a joke at the expense of a word that already works as its own plural.
