getting one

It comes from the Pirate, and he only stocks it once the Party Girl has moved in and at least one mechanical boss is down. Both conditions are easy to hit by accident and easy to miss entirely, so if the line is not in his shop, work out which of the two you are short of.

loading and aiming

This is furniture you shoot with. Hold a torch and click the emplacement to fire, and the torch is not spent, so one in your hotbar lasts the rest of the run. Clicking either side of the barrel rotates it a step in that direction through nine positions. It cannot be pointed straight down, but the shot arcs anyway, so targets below the platform are still reachable with a little elevation.

what the shot does

The projectile is thrown on a lob, bounces off terrain while shedding half its speed each time, and passes through any number of enemies without stopping. It leaves blocks alone, which is the reason you can build an arena around one. Momentum is what ends it: once the bounces have bled it dry it lands, and if it somehow keeps its speed for long enough it detonates on a timer instead. The blast covers a square far wider than the bunny itself.

The piercing is real rather than nominal, because the projectile applies its own brief immunity window per target instead of consuming the usual one. A shot threaded down a line of enemies genuinely hits all of them.

the bunny that kills you

When the projectile runs out of speed it turns into a live explosive bunny sitting on the ground. Hit that and it goes off in your face for everything it would have dealt an enemy. The usual way this happens is firing while advancing: you plant one ahead of yourself, catch up to it, and swing at whatever is in front of you. Netting one is safe, since it just vanishes, and one that dies on its own does nothing.

wiring it

A wire pulse fires the cannon, or rotates it, depending on which side the wire connects to. The catch is the cooldown on wired shots, which is long for the cannon that fired and still noticeable for every other cannon in the world, so a wired battery is a decoration with a slow heartbeat rather than a turret. Torch firing ignores that entirely and has a fraction of a second between shots.

when it is worth building

It wants a fixed arena and a target that comes to you, which in practice means slow bosses. Golem is the obvious customer, since it stays in one room and cannot avoid an arc. Anything mobile makes the emplacement useless, because you cannot take it with you. There is also a hard cap on how many bunnies can exist at once, projectiles and landed critters counted together, and a broader limit on total creatures in the world, so on a crowded screen the cannon simply refuses to fire until things thin out.
