1what the pet actually needs
The bunny moves in overnight and then behaves like a very small townsperson. It wants the same valid room a merchant would, with walls, a table, a chair and light, and it will happily bunk with an existing NPC. The one thing it will not share a room with is another town pet, so plan for a separate space if you intend to collect all three.
the real cost is the Bestiary
The coin price is nothing by the time you can buy it. The Bestiary threshold is the wall. Filling that much of it means hunting rare spawns, biome critters and enemies that only appear during specific events, so getting the license before Hardmode is a deliberate project rather than something that happens along the way.
rerolling the breed
Buying a second copy and using it swaps the bunny for a fresh one with a new breed and name. It is the cheapest way to fish for the coloring you want, though the game will refuse if you try it before the first bunny has finished moving in.
