Enchanted Sword

Nothing drops this. It exists as a blade stuck in stone in the background, either inside a proper shrine or wedged into random rock anywhere underground, and you get it by breaking that scenery. Only a small handful of weapons in the game are found lying in the world like this rather than pried off something you killed. Golden and titanium crates can also produce one if you would rather fish for it than go looking.

Not every sword in stone is the real thing. Out in random underground pockets you will also find a junk version that gives you nothing at all. Shrines never contain those, so anything sitting in a proper shrine is worth smashing on sight. Breaking a genuine one also carries a small chance of handing you the Terragrim instead of the sword. That is not a consolation prize, it is the rarer weapon and the only way to obtain one.

Most of the time it is a plain broadsword. Every so often a swing throws a beam, and that beam runs on its own recharge rather than on your attack rate, so swinging faster does not produce more of them. The game tells you when it is ready with a small sparkle and the chime you hear when mana refills, and the next swing after that carries it. The beam will not pierce and will not pass through blocks, so it is for open ground rather than corridors. Both the sword and the shot throw off a lot of light, which makes exploring with it out genuinely pleasant.

Melee speed changes how fast the beam travels but not how often it comes back. If you care about getting every beam you are owed, tune your attack speed so the swing cycle lands on the recharge rather than running ahead of it, which means the fastest possible swing is not automatically the right answer. Legendary otherwise.

For something you can find before killing anything at all, it punches above its weight, and the free ranged poke papers over the worst part of early melee. The Starfury does the same job better the moment you can reach a floating island, so treat this as the weapon that gets you there.

It is a Zenith component, so every character eventually needs one whether or not they ever swing it. By that point farming crates is a poor use of an evening. Generating a fresh world and raiding its shrines is much faster, and published seeds will guarantee a shrine as long as your version matches. One warning: copies pulled out of crates never carry a modifier, which does not matter for crafting and is irritating if you meant to use it.
