Goat Skull

The skull only falls out of the Wall of Flesh in a Master world, so a Classic or Expert playthrough will never see one. If you want the mount in one of those worlds you have to spin up a Master world, kill the Wall there, and carry it back on the same character. Nothing else you own at that point in progression moves the way this does, so the trip is usually worth it.

Trotting around on it is unremarkable. Once the goat has been running long enough to hit its stride it starts scorching the blocks under its feet and hurting anything it plows through, and you get a sliver of invulnerability every time you connect. The knockback is heavy enough that whatever you hit is airborne before it can turn around, so a single run down a flat corridor clears it without you ever drawing a weapon. If you trigger a Shield of Cthulhu dash while already charging, both hits land on the same enemy.

Momentum carries into the mount, so you do not have to build speed from a standstill. Jumping on while sprinting, mounting out of a dash, or riding the burst from a canceled grapple all put the goat straight into its charging state over a distance that would never be enough on its own. That is the difference between a mount that is fun on a long road and one you can actually use inside an arena.

The mount gives you a mid air jump by itself, and it stacks with everything else that grants one. A Cloud in a Bottle makes three, a Bundle of Balloons takes it to five, and adding the jar and bottle accessories on top gets you seven hops before you touch ground. Fall damage while mounted is heavily reduced, and a Lucky Horseshoe or any set of wings removes it outright no matter how far you dropped.

• It cannot swim and it will not save you from lava, though Water Walking Boots or Lava Waders transfer to the mount so the goat walks on whatever you would have walked on.
• It stands a tile taller than most mounts, so a tunnel you dug to fit yourself will not fit it.
• Asphalt does nothing for it and neither do speed potions, so a paved run with Lightning Boots actually edges it out. Its advantage is rough ground, where boots never get going.
• Shallow honey neither slows it nor buffs you, and shallow lava still burns.
