Used to craft
still liquid becomes floor
With these on you run across the top of water instead of swimming through it, and honey and shimmer behave the same way. Lava does not, and finding that out at speed is the classic mistake. Landing on a liquid surface from any height does no fall damage at all, which makes them quietly useful for descending shafts you flooded on purpose. Press down and you drop through, the same way you would leave a platform.
the surface has to have settled
Only stable liquid will hold you. Flowing water drops you straight in, and you can tell the difference by the bright line along the top: no line, no floor. That matters most when you are pouring buckets to build a crossing, so give it a moment to settle before you step out.
mounts inherit it
Any mount that walks rather than hovers picks up the ability while you have these equipped, including several you would not expect. A unicorn crossing an ocean at full sprint is the usual demonstration. Mounts that float under their own power get nothing from it.
you can fish for them
Ocean chests and the crates you pull out of the same water both produce them, so this is one of the few movement upgrades you can farm sitting still rather than exploring for it.
