Monarch Butterfly Jar

Making one is a two-step job: net a live butterfly with a Bug Net, then pair it with an empty Bottle. Catching is the fiddly half, since butterflies drift, spook easily, and the less common colors only appear in particular biomes. Placed down, the jar animates and the butterfly loops around behind the glass, the same way every critter cage behaves.

Shimmer runs the recipe backwards. Throw a jar in and both the bottle and a live butterfly come back as items, which is the only clean way to pull a rare catch out of decoration and put it somewhere else. Most of these jars are dark and need a light source in the room. The Hell Butterfly Jar is the exception: it glows on its own, so it lights a small space in a build where a torch would look out of place.
