Shots leave your hand roughly in the direction you pointed and then correct themselves by homing. Once a bolt picks a target it keeps that target until the thing dies, even if something closer walks in front of it. Every so often you get the larger blue version instead, which is much faster, tracks from twice the distance and hits several times harder. There is no way to force it, so your damage over a fight is spiky by design.

The scatter decides where this weapon is any good. Out in the open, misses curve back around and land anyway. In a Dungeon corridor or under a low ceiling, half your shots detonate on the wall beside you and accomplish nothing. Mana drain is heavy enough that you want regeneration potions or a stack of restores on the bar before anything long.

Healing from the hood scales off the damage of the hit that triggered it, and this has the biggest single hits available to a magic user. One connection can refill an alarming chunk of health at the cost of a long lockout afterward. That makes it the thing to swap to in the window right after Moon Bite wears off, when you need a lot of health back in a few seconds and only get one chance at it.
