How to craft it
how spears play
You thrust it out and pull it back, and everything about the weapon happens in that window. The tip reaches far enough to hit something standing on the far side of a wall, or to hold one end of a corridor without stepping into it. Melee speed bonuses shorten the recovery and, unusually, stretch the reach out slightly as well, so attack speed gear pays off twice here.
when to use it
Spears want a fixed line, not a brawl. Against worms and anything that files toward you along the ground they are excellent, since a single thrust sits inside several segments at once. Against fast erratic fliers they are miserable, because you cannot correct mid-thrust and the animation locks you into the angle you picked.
Its opposite number is the Mythril Halberd. Neither is meaningfully better, so build whichever your world handed you.
trivia
- The sprite is a pike, not a halberd. The Palladium Pike has the same problem in reverse.
- These two are the only hardmode ore spears to share a name. The rest all got distinct ones.
