The ore list is the reason to carry these. Every early Hardmode ore breaks under the blast, so a fresh Hardmode world no longer forces you up the pickaxe ladder before you can collect anything. Drop a line of them down a long shaft and you pull out ore that a proper pickaxe would have taken an hour to reach.

• The fuse runs long enough that a bad throw leaves you standing in the blast. Get behind solid ground or well clear before it goes off.
• It is fatter than a full block, so it will not drop through a one tile gap. Shafts you dug by hand often will not accept one.
• The area that hurts things and the area that removes blocks are shaped differently, so an enemy can survive at the lip of a hole you just opened.

Dynamite is still the better pick when all you want is a quick hole or raw damage, since it is far cheaper to keep in stock.
