Food buffs come in tiers and this one is the middle rung. What you are buying is the regeneration and the small lift across every stat, which matters in the ten minutes before a boss and barely at all while you are wandering around your own base.

Eating anything else replaces it, so do not chew through your good food out of habit. Cancel the buff by right clicking the icon if you want the slot back for something stronger.

The icon for the top food tier is drawn as a roast duck. This item does not grant that buff, which is an easy thing to misread. The tooltip is a nod to Castlevania, where smashing a wall would sometimes produce a whole cooked bird.
