Without it, every bite is a blind commitment. You pull, you spend the bait, and only then do you see what you got. With the buff running the catch names itself over the bobber before you commit, so you can ignore a bad hook and leave the line sitting there until something better takes it. Refusing a bite costs nothing but patience.

If your bait chest is deep and your fishing power is high, reading every bite is slower than just yanking everything up and sorting the pile afterward. The potion pays off on narrow jobs: hunting one specific Angler quest fish, farming crates, or fishing through a Blood Moon where some of what bites will climb out and attack you. It also pairs well with the Chum Bucket, which expires after a fixed number of pulls no matter how junk the catches were.

• If you have turned pickup text off in your settings, no name appears at all. You still get the audio cue, but you are back to guessing.
