Squirrel Hook

Every other hook slides straight off a tree trunk. This one bites into them, and into giant glowing mushrooms as well, which turns a forest into a row of handholds and makes the surface much faster to cross on a fresh character. Grappling to trees was in the game early in development and got cut for feeling bad to play with, and this hook is where the idea eventually landed.

The Zoologist stocks it once your bestiary is far enough along, but that gate almost never bites in practice, because she will not move in until you have already logged that many entries. Vampirism worlds are the exception, since she is there from the start, so you may need to go kill things before she will sell you anything.

Some spots on curved palm trees accept the hook and then release it immediately, flinging you off in whatever direction you were being pulled. Mildly funny over water, less funny over a drop. Its reach is short by any standard, so treat it as an early convenience rather than a hook you keep.
