what it is good for
Nothing chops faster. Clearing a jungle for building material, or felling a plantation of gem trees, is what this tool exists for. For actual construction the Luminite hamaxes beat it despite the lower raw power, because their reach is longer and reach is what you feel when you are placing and pulling tiles at arm's length.
One irritation: while it is autoswinging you cannot turn around. Chopping a tree from one side and then wanting the other means letting go of the button first.
the guitar
Each swing plays an electric guitar note, and the pitch tracks how far your cursor sits from you, so with some patience you can actually play a tune with it. It is one of only three weapons in the game that make music.
where the name comes from
Axe is old slang for a guitar, borrowed from jazz players who used the same word for a saxophone decades earlier. The item is a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, which is why the boss that drops it is already a Pantera joke, and the sprite is a Flying V.
