You do not have to keep dying for those. Grave markers can be mined and replanted, so any you have already scattered around the world can be carried in and stood up in a small plot beside his room. Talk to him there and the hat and dress appear next to his usual lines.

Pull the stones out again afterward if you would rather not live with the gloom filter and the higher spawn rate a graveyard brings.

Two slots are involved, head and body, and the dress runs long enough that no matching leg piece is needed. It all sits in the social slots, so your armor keeps working underneath and the leg vanity slot is free for boots.
