Banner

Every 50th kill of this enemy drops Eyezor Banner.

when you will run into one

There is no summoning item for an Eyezor. It turns up on its own during a Solar Eclipse, the hardmode daytime event, and only then. It is one of the less common faces in that crowd, so an eclipse can run a while before one walks on screen. A Lifeform Analyzer helps, since this is one of the few enemies it will announce before you can see it. Killing one changes nothing about the event. The eclipse runs until dusk whatever you do, and more keep arriving until it does.

damage makes it faster

It starts as a slightly quicker zombie that ignores knockback, and it gets worse from there. Every chunk of health you take off raises its walking speed and shortens the wait between laser shots. Near death it is sprinting and firing almost continuously, which is the opposite of what you expect from a wounded enemy.

That changes how you should approach it. Chipping away at one across an arena means fighting the fast version for most of the exchange. Either commit and kill it quickly or break line of sight and leave, because trading pokes with it is the worst of both.

the beam has conditions

The lasers are the real threat, and every shot has to pass a set of checks first. Break any one of them and it goes quiet.

  • It needs an unbroken line to you. A single block of cover cancels the shot, which is why fighting from behind a pillar works so well.
  • It has to be planted on the ground. Jumping, falling, or any other vertical movement stops it firing, so a run of platforms it has to hop across buys you free hits.
  • You have to be close enough. It gives up on distant targets rather than sniping you from off screen.
  • It will not fire while you are Frozen, which is the one time that debuff does you a favor.

Its knockback resistance takes away the usual habit of shoving an enemy back while you reposition. Terrain has to do that work instead.

trivia

The name is a pun on eyesore, and the sprite commits to it: an ordinary zombie body with a Demon Eye where the head belongs. Along with the Reaper it is one of the only eclipse enemies that is not a nod to a specific horror film. Getting faster and angrier as it dies mirrors the Wall of Flesh, which escalates the same way.
