Granite Golem

They only generate inside granite caves, the pocket biome of dark polished stone that forms underground. No item summons them naturally and nothing in your progression unlocks them. There is a depth restriction worth knowing: the pocket can form at two layers, but the golems stick to the deeper one, so a shallow granite cave will be quiet. The tell is audio. A low grunt echoing down a tunnel means granite is somewhere nearby before the map shows you any of it.

On a repeating timer it plants its feet and becomes untouchable for a couple of seconds. Nothing lands during that, and walking into a shielded golem still hurts you, so it is not a free moment to close distance.

There is a nastier detail underneath. Hitting it while the guard is up drags the next guard forward, so hammering a fast weapon into a blocking golem makes it block more often and stretches the fight out. The correct response is to stop swinging, step back, and resume the instant it opens. With a slow heavy weapon the timer barely registers. With a rapid one it can double how long this takes.

It can only raise the shield while it is standing on a surface. Knock it off a ledge, lure it over a pit, or fight it somewhere the floor runs out, and the ability is simply gone. It moves quickly for a ground enemy but it cannot fly and it cannot cross a gap, so terrain is the whole counter.

There is a Granite Golem Statue, and wiring one up removes the searching completely. That is the sensible route if you want Geodes in quantity, since they crack open for gems, or if you are after the Night Vision Helmet, which is the only drop here with real resale value. Leave fire weapons out of the setup. Both granite enemies are immune to burning.

Before the game gave enemies proper internal names this one was listed as Grolem, matching the Granite Elemental being called Grelimental. That placeholder leaked into the game for a while: its banner carried the shortened name until it was corrected. The word golem itself comes from Jewish folklore, where it means a figure animated out of unformed clay.
