Dark Mage's Tome

This is not flight in the usual sense. Leave the ground and you hang at a fixed height for a few seconds, then drop. Mounting while already airborne does not start the timer, so you have to jump or step off something to trigger it. Hold down to push the hover lower, and any extra jump you have raises the height it settles at.

On the ground it glides without ever spending the hover timer, and it does that faster than Lightning Boots and everything built from them. For crossing a world you have already dug through, that is the whole appeal: hold a direction and go, with no upkeep and no fall damage.

It has strange rules for anything that is not a solid block. You can move onto a platform from a block that lines up flush with it, but the instant you are airborne for any reason, knockback included, you fall straight through. Stairs do not work at all: you pass through the ones going up and float over the ones going down. Water walking gear does nothing, and touching liquid just starts the hover clock before you sink.

For a fixed arena this is the wrong tool. A Fuzzy Carrot, a golf cart or a horse gives you more predictable horizontal movement in a small space, and a Slimy Saddle is the answer if what you need is vertical.
