This is the Crimson key to Hell. Until you own it or the Corruption version, Hellstone will not budge, and the entire Molten tier sits behind that. Kill the Brain of Cthulhu, craft this, dig your hellevator.

Compared with the Corruption counterpart it is a fraction quicker, which is the sort of gap you only notice over a long tunnel. Nobody should feel cheated by which one their world rolled.

• Hellstone spits lava when it breaks, so an Obsidian Skin Potion turns the whole trip from lethal to routine.
• Bring more blocks than you think. Mining a seam out often drops you into the pool it was holding back.
• Mine from below the seam only if you enjoy swimming in it. Working sideways along a wall is safer.
