Fish Bowl

The plain bowl and the gold one both fit a helmet slot, and where you put them decides whether it is a joke or a hazard. Dropped into the vanity slot it is purely cosmetic. Put into the working armor slot, the game decides your head is underwater: the breath meter appears, it drains, and you drown standing on dry land. A Breathing Reed or a Gills Potion cancels that out, so bring one if you want the look during an actual fight. With Neptune's Shell equipped the bowl also flips you to the merfolk sprite without granting the buff that normally comes with it.

The plain, gold and pupfish versions are all crafted from bottled water and the matching live fish, so getting one is a fishing problem rather than a loot problem. The Lava Serpent Bowl is the exception. It only turns up inside Obsidian and Hellstone Crates, which means fishing in lava. Any crafted bowl thrown into Shimmer comes apart into its ingredients and returns the fish alive, which is the only way to undo one.

All four work as furniture, and the lava version is the only one that gives off light on its own. Its tooltip goes out of its way to tell you it cannot go on your head, which is fair warning given what the water-filled ones do. On old-gen consoles and 3DS a placed bowl cannot be recovered with a pickaxe at all; mining it destroys it, so you have to break the block underneath and let it drop.

Fish Bowls keep their normal color through a Blood Moon while the water around them turns red. The gold version's tooltip plays on whether the gold part is the bowl or the fish inside it. And the creature swimming in the lava bowl looks like what Bone Serpents were before they lost their obsidian scales, which their own bestiary entry hints at.
