Bottlesave it for fights
It is a flat percentage on magic damage, so it scales with whatever staff you are holding and gets better as your gear improves. The duration is short enough that drinking one while exploring is a waste. Line it up with the rest of your buff stack right before a boss and it costs you nothing extra.
the spectre hood case
The healing version of the Spectre Hood cuts your magic damage hard enough that a lot of players give up on it. This potion claws back nearly all of the loss. That matters twice over, because the hood converts damage dealt into healing, so restoring the damage also restores the healing. If you are running the support hood in a multiplayer fight, this potion is close to mandatory rather than optional.
