It stays out longer per throw and shoves enemies further away, so it holds a corridor or a doorway well. What you give up is a little punch per hit and a little distance on the string, which shows against anything that closes fast.

The Artery hits harder and reaches further, so it is the better tool when you are chasing something down rather than defending a spot. Either way both are placeholders until a longer string and a counterweight turn yoyos into something you can actually build a run around.
