As long as the Destroyer is still alive in your world, any enemy that drops coins can hand you one at a very low rate. Farming an event or sitting in a decent spawn area for an evening usually turns up a spare or two before you have scraped together the souls. That matters more than it sounds, because the fight goes better on the second and third attempt when you already know the arena, and having a stack means you are not gated on another altar smash.
it works where the boss should not exist
Take one to a world that has never entered hardmode and it still calls the Destroyer down. That is the standard route for players who want the drops without breaking altars and seeding their world with the new ore and its enemies. Night only, though, in any biome.
two side doors
- Drop one into Shimmer and it comes apart into the evil crafting material your world uses. In a Drunk world the two evils trade places daily, so you can get either one out of it depending on when you do it.
- In the Zenith seed it is never consumed. It becomes a permanent component of Ocram's Razor, which calls all three mechanical bosses at once as a single fused fight.
