Shroomite Breastplate
13% increased ranged damage & critical strike chance 20% chance to save ammo
How to craft it
Set bonus
The bonus applies while the helmet, chestpiece and leggings are all worn together.
picking a headpiece
Chest and legs are fixed. The head is where the choice lives, and it decides which slice of your ranged arsenal gets multiplied. One head covers bows and everything they fire. One covers guns and their ammunition. The third catches everything else that shoots: launchers, flamethrowers, dart weapons, harpoons, and the ranged weapons that need no ammunition at all. The only thing that category cannot help is the Coin Gun, because a weapon with no listed damage has nothing to scale.
The head bonus is applied last, on top of every other ranged boost you are wearing. That ordering does more than the tooltip suggests, because it also scales your accessories: a Ranger Emblem is worth noticeably more while a Shroomite head is on than it is by itself. If you swap between weapon types during a fight, keep all three heads in a chest. The extra two cost ore but no new material.
what stealth does
Stop moving and stop using items and you fade toward invisible over about a second. The fade is the buff. As it deepens you pick up ranged damage, extra critical chance, extra knockback, and a large drop in how interesting you look to the enemy AI. Fighter and flying enemies will not fire projectiles at a stealthed player who is not attacking, and a lot of them lose interest in chasing entirely. In multiplayer they go hunting whoever is still visible.
All of that reward is front loaded into a single shot, which is why the set is the classic partner for the Sniper Rifle. One slow, heavy, high-crit shot fired out of full stealth, then a pause while it rebuilds. Against ordinary enemies that is a one-shot loop with a rest step. Against a boss that keeps landing damage on you, it is close to nothing.
what turns it off
Taking any hit drops it immediately. So does climbing on a mount. Movement bleeds it away, and the faster you move the faster it goes, so a slow reposition costs almost the whole stack while a hard sprint barely registers.
Firing does not reset the meter, only pauses it, and it resumes a fraction of a second after the animation ends. Teleport tools are the exception that matters: Rod of Discord style movement leaves stealth intact, which is the one clean way to change position without paying for it.
Hovering counts as standing still, so you can park in the air and vanish mid-fight for a few seconds. None of this helps if you are facetanking or sitting inside an invulnerability setup, because in both cases you are either eating hits or attacking without pause, and the bonus never gets off the ground.
when to break the set
If you are not playing around stealth, this is not the strongest ranged loadout available. Swapping the chest for the Red Riding Dress gives a much bigger ranged multiplier, keeps the same ammunition saving, and throws in summon damage. The Red Riding Leggings beat the Shroomite legs the same way. Keep the head in both cases, since nothing else in the game gives that ammunition-specific multiplier.
For PvP the armor works against itself, because the pieces glow deep blue even at full stealth. Pairing it with a dark vanity set and no visible accessories closes that gap and holds up better than an Invisibility Potion, which pops the instant anything touches you.
notes
This is the only armor whose head variants all carry identical defense, so the pick is purely about which weapons you enjoy rather than a stat trade.
Enemies are not the only ones fooled. Town NPCs will not emote at a stealthed player, which is a small hint that the game treats the effect as real invisibility and not a visual.
