Life Crystals are the headline. A world only ever generates so many, so once you have dug out every one of them this is one of the few ways left to keep raising a health bar. That matters most for a fresh character dropped into an old, picked-over world. Pulling an Enchanted Sword out of one is the other draw, since it saves you sweeping the underground for shrine sprites.

Metal comes from a single draw rather than four, so no crate gives you a mixed haul of ore and bars. What it will always do is hand over something from the upper part of the table, so there is no such thing as an empty one. If you are opening these in bulk, the hardmode bar roll is where most of the practical value sits.

Being the top standard crate makes these tempting to offload unopened when coin is tight, and that is usually the wrong call. The Hardy Saddle exists in nothing else except the pre-hardmode version of this crate, so anyone chasing a complete collection has no other route to it. If you have the storage, open them.
