the bag is what you actually use

On its own this is another chest with the usual number of slots, in the same family as the Piggy Bank and the safe. Paired with the Void Bag it becomes a second inventory that follows you everywhere. Once your main inventory fills, anything you pick up drops into the vault instead of onto the ground, flagged with purple text so you know where it went, and opening the bag lets you take things back out without ever placing the block. The vault itself is just another door into that same storage, the way a Money Trough is another door into your piggy bank.

who should actually build the block

Most players craft the bag and stop there. The vault costs less to make but needs a flat run of ground to sit on, which makes it strictly worse for one person carrying a bag around. Two things change that. On mediumcore you drop the bag on death like anything else, so a vault at spawn gives you somewhere to unload before a dangerous trip and somewhere to recover into afterwards. It also sells for far more than the material that goes into it, which is a reasonable sink for leftover evil biome drops once you have crafted everything else you wanted.

it unlocks earlier than people expect

The real gate is Skeletron, because the recipe needs bones and bones come from dungeon enemies. Your world evil boss does not have to die at all. Summon it, tear a few segments off the Eater of Worlds or kill a handful of Creepers from the Brain of Cthulhu, then leave. Drunk worlds are looser still, since dungeon enemies show up there before Skeletron does.

small notes

  • Contents are private to the character that owns it. Nothing inside is visible to anyone else on a server.
  • It gives off light where you place it, which is handy in an otherwise dark storage room.
  • Pushing it through Shimmer returns whichever evil material your world runs on. On a drunk world that flips day by day, so the same vault can hand back either one.
