You can throw these. The arc is steep and the reach is the shortest of the three throwables, so you will not want to. Knives and shurikens both go farther. Once thrown they are gone for good, so the only reason to chuck one is that you have thousands and nothing better in hand.

Bones are a material, and one of the more demanded ones. The Void Bag and Void Vault alone justify a dungeon trip, and past that they turn into building blocks, furniture and a handful of weapons. Angry Bones and their relatives drop them steadily, so the usual approach is one focused farm, a large stack in storage, and never thinking about it again.

They cannot sit in ammo slots any more, so if you are used to parking them there you will need real inventory space. And in a drunk world nothing drops them until Skeletron is down, which can strand a build that was counting on early bones.
